How to Use This Page in One Glance
Use these three blocks as your quick map: thesis bullet, 5W coverage, and STAR stories. Once these are tight, your resume and interviews get a lot easier.
1) Tune Your “Thesis Bullet”
Goal: Define scope in one line so any CHRO or CEO “gets you” instantly.
- Open each role with who you reported to, population, scope, and mandate.
- Then stack 3–5 verb → result bullets.
- Name partners: CEO, CFO, Plant, IT, Finance, etc.
2) Cover the 5W+H
Goal: Make every bullet answer “who/what/where/when/why/how.”
- Who/What/Where/When/Why/How on each project.
- Quantify headcount, sites, dollars, timelines.
- Tie to outcomes (retention, time-to-fill, cost).
3) Bring 3–5 STAR Stories
Goal: Have ready-made stories that sound natural, not rehearsed.
- Situation • Task • Action • Result.
- Lead with the result; backfill the how.
- Keep one story per core competency.
Role “Thesis Bullet” (Put This First Under Each Title)
Template: “Report to VP of X supporting X,000 employees across X locations. Primary partner to CEO, CFO, VP Sales, Plant Leaders. Mandate: e.g., rebuild leadership bench, reduce time-to-fill 30%, stand up HRIS.”
Language Moves
- Start with Lead, Create, Build, Launch, Negotiate, Manage.
- Skip “I,” “responsible for,” “various.”
- Place the verb first, the result close behind.
Example Bullets
- Created career framework for Ops → −22% turnover in 12 months.
- Led TA overhaul across 18 sites → time-to-fill 42→28 days.
- Negotiated benefits renewal → $1.1M savings with parity coverage.
5 W’s + How: What to State Explicitly
Run each role through this checklist. If a W is missing, add it to a bullet or your thesis line.
